Me bathing in my artjournals

Hi, I'm Jerney!

Have you ever struggled with getting started on your art? Being loose? Putting emotion in your work? Or maybe you have even lost your joy for creating because of all the pressure you're putting on yourself? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then take my hand and I will help you!

I do this in three ways:

  • For free: I share tips, prompts and even mini lessons to my newsletter subscribers
  • I'm on Patreon to share weekly videos to keep you inspired (check out my free posts on my introduction page)
  • By teaching my online art classes (there are 3 free ones for you to enjoy)

So, let me start by sharing a little bit more about my own journey into art.

As far back as I can remember, art has been calling out to me. I've always been drawing, sculpting and I felt so incredibly drawn to paint I can't even put that feeling into words. However, that's where I always got into trouble with my inner critic (the force was strong in that one). For the longest time I didn't understand the paints and I would get so frustrated that I would give up. Even while I was studying art therapy, can you imagine how silly I felt at the time?

You see, I get it. I know the struggles that come with creating art—the nagging self-doubt, the fear of failure and crippling perfectionism, and the constant battle with your inner critic. I've been there, and I've found a way to conquer those obstacles. And I want to share everything that I've learned over the years with you.

My Teaching Style

My teaching style is all about playfulness, exploration, and letting your inner weirdo roam free. No judgment, no perfectionism. I will help you to find that sense of freedom of playful exploration without focusing too much on the end result. Together, we'll dive into the realms of charcoal, inks, acrylic, gelliprinting, collage and whatever else I'm obsessed with at a particular moment in time.

My lessons are designed in a way that will spark your own creativity, while I explain everything about the art supplies that we will be using. I always teach as if the artists watching me know nothing about the techniques and materials used so no matter where you are on your journey, you will be able to follow along.

Oh, and don't forget to join me on Instagram @jerneymarisha for inspiration and art tips and the occasional cat ladiness (I have three clingy little roomies).

I'm not for everyone though

If you're here to learn measuring and making academic style portraits, I'm going to be a huge disappointment! I hate measuring with passion and have my own techniques to construct figures and portraits. I enjoy creating in a loose way while focusing on having fun and expressing emotion.

We are a great fit if you...

  • like exploring your art supplies in a playful and intuitive way
  • want to learn how to trust your intuition and create in liberating ways
  • need help conquering the white page in many different ways
  • are experiencing artist block, fear of failure and other limiting beliefs about your art
