Wanna win a free spot in LFI 2021?

Hey everyone!

I’m so excited to announce that I’m a teacher in Let’s Face it 2021! LFI was actually the first year long class I ever took myself and I learned so much from it, so it’s a huge honour when Kara asked me to be a part of next year’s team!

This class is for anyone that wants to practice creating portraits and figurative art, but it’s designed especially for those of you who might have felt intimidated to do so at one point in your life. We will share our strategies, tips and techniques on how we are creating our art. Together, we’re going to give it our all to help you to get the confidence to get into your studio and create the fabulous art that is waiting to get out of you!

In 2021, we will be focussing on where to find inspiration, it’s going to be lots of fun!

What I really like about this class is that it’s so allround and well thought out. This year’s line up is amazing as well, check out our team of inspiring teachers here. The class isn’t open to registration yet, but you can bookmark this page so that on October 12 you can come back and register. If you register before November 21st, you will get an earlybird discount on the price and if you’re one of the first lucky 500 students you will get to take the class for the very earlybird price of $99! Awesome, right?

But what I’m the most excited about is that I’m being able to give away one free spot to one of you guys! You know I love a good giveaway, right? 😉

Here’s how you enter the competition for the free spot:

  1. Share this blog post on your social media
  2. Comment below and tell me what or who inspires you most of all

I will announce the winner on October 1st, good luck everyone!

Oh gosh what inspires me most is probably looking at people’s faces in person or on tv. I see the contours of their face, their emotion and I just want to sit down and put it on paper! (I’ve shared it on my fb page)

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 12:25 pm

Oh wow, you’re so fast Aleesha!! Thank you so much for sharing, I know just exactly what you mean. People’s faces and expressions are my biggest inspiration as well. Let’s Face It seems like the perfect fit for you, I wish you all the luck in the world! <3

  2. Andrea on September 23, 2020 at 12:47 pm

I think what inspires me most of all is colour, light and texture – I want to be able to recreate and re-imagine what I see around me in daily life, but it’s people that I find this the hardest to do this with. I’d like to think that something like Let’s Face It would be able to teach me how to capture these things much better than I currently do… 🙂

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 1:05 pm

Hi Andrea! Ohh I can relate to this. I have always been so inspired by people but I had the hardest time capturing them. So much that I took up portrait photography for a while out of frustration haha! LFI really helped me to break it down and now I looove painting faces. I’m sure you will love the class, next year’s concept is really exciting as well! Good luck! Have you already checked out the free lessons in my shop? I hope they’ll be helpful to you. 😘

      • Andrea on September 24, 2020 at 8:11 am

Thank you! I thought I had accessed those lessons, but I can’t find a login so I will check them out again. 🙂 Oh, and shared on Twitter btw. 😀

I have struggled so much this year with inspiration. So much so I am struggling now to come up with an answer. I think that possibly nature has brought me the most inspiration this year, it’s also been my saviour.

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 1:07 pm

Hi sweet Maggie! Aww I’m so sorry to hear you’re struggling in the inspiration department! Nature is such a wonderful inspiration, are you also printing with found leaves and such? That can be so inspiring! I’m crossing my fingers and my toes for you and I’m going to ponder on another freebie about inspiration. ❤️

      • Maggie Goodwin on September 23, 2020 at 2:36 pm

Thank you Jerney, I have been eco printmaking with leaves and flowers collected on my daily walks. I forgot to say I shared on Twitter. 🙏🏼

      • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 5:04 pm

Ohh that sounds amazing! Go you, daily walks are such a great practice. I love the look of eco printing. ❤️ aw yay! Thank you so much!

  4. Robin on September 23, 2020 at 1:03 pm

I love the complexity of the human face! Endlessly fascinating is the fact that everyone has a different face and this is how we recognize each other. I shared on Twitter.

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 1:09 pm

Thank you so much Robin! ❤️ Ohhh yes, yes, yes! The human face is so incredibly exciting! You will love LFI then, good luck to you! 🙂

  5. Wanda on September 23, 2020 at 1:23 pm

What inspires me most is light (and dark). It can set the mood, focus, shapes and realism. Love it! <3 Shared this post on my FB page.

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 1:41 pm

Thank you so much Wanda! Ohh yes, light and shadow play. 🥰 I love insane contrast haha! Good luck sweetie! 😘

  6. Janet Shier on September 23, 2020 at 1:40 pm

Many things inspire me. Recently, I’ve been reflecting on humans’ ability to adapt. It may take a while to find inspiration, but eventually my muse returns in different forms, mainly from looking at nature, looking at people’s eyes and expression, and hearing laughter and the uniqueness of individuals’ voices.

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 1:43 pm

Hi Janet!! ❤️ That is so interesting! Yes, I understand. Your muse will find you, searching within will always bring everything in motion. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, I love this little peek inside your mind. ❤️

  7. Kathy Reed on September 23, 2020 at 2:26 pm

So many things inspire me…but right now dogs (!)…and (always) the face every day. Endlessly fascinating to find new ways to paint it….the lights the shadows the planes.

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 5:01 pm

Hi Kathy!! Oh wow, dogs! I’m always so impressed with artists who can portray them expressively! Oh yes, isn’t it wonderful how many ways there are? 🥰

  8. Pernelle on September 23, 2020 at 3:37 pm

Shared on Facebook . What inspires me the most when I create is expression, letting go and not worrying about the result, this feeds my soul. Creating something that comes from me, something that didn’t exist before. Letting loose and going outside the lines. Takes the stress away 🙂

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 5:12 pm

So much yes to all of this, Pernelle!! 😍 Thank you so much for sharing 😘

  9. Carmen on September 23, 2020 at 3:38 pm

The feminine power inspires me !!! Sometimes is hidden under softness or a shy personality ! That’s the reason I live to paint portraits , trying to discover that strength!

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 5:14 pm

I love the way you put that into words, Carmen! 🥰

  10. Kim on September 23, 2020 at 3:57 pm

Just shared on my facebook! Just love this class and have learned so much from it over the last few years. My inspiration comes from the Lord but what I love about faces is I never get tired of painting them. I usually get bored with a subject matter pretty quick which makes it hard to master anything but every face is so different. I’m also fascinated with eyes…they say they are the windows of the soul and that’s so true. I also love light and shadow…the stronger the contrast the more interesting to me. I understand your journey into photography…I don’t like taking pictures but I catch myself constantly studying faces while I’m watching tv…so much so that I will pause and rewind if I see a really well lit face and I want to study how the light hits different parts of the face lol.

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 5:20 pm

Thank you Kim! Oh yes! Those insane contrasts in the face are so incredibly intriguing to me as well! And those eyes, they get me every time! I love that you’re pausing to study the expressions and lighting situations. I think you will find way more emotive faces than, let’s say, doing a search on unsplash.com!

  11. Wendy Tassone on September 23, 2020 at 4:02 pm

I’m inspired by the nature around me, the peaceful and daily story’s my walks engage me in, and the many teachers I follow and hands on classes and art supply’s to experiment with, and most of all the changing seasons where I live that come alive with colour and beauty in the Canadian Rockies. 🥰

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 5:24 pm

Hi dear Wendy 🥰 ohhh yeah, you’re surrounded with so much beautiful nature in your country! I would love to visit one day when it’s safe to travel again! Experimentation is also one of my favourite sources of inspiration. Those wonderful happy accidents can feel like tumbling down the rabbit hole!

  12. Kathy Reed on September 23, 2020 at 4:54 pm

Right now what inspires me are dogs (!) and faces, always faces. Endlessly fascinating in their shapes and differences. Fun to try to boil it down to the simplest possible……

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 5:25 pm

I wholeheartedly agree! Simplification is so incredibly satisfying and it zooms in on the expression. ❤️

  13. Maria Egilsson on September 23, 2020 at 4:55 pm

I find that faces intrigue me, the narrative and story that they tell. I could draw and paint them over and over again, seeing the lights and shadows. But I do need to learn different techniques and ways to express beyond just another face on a canvas.

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 5:31 pm

Hi Maria! I totally understand! I can paint and draw faces night and day without getting bored. If you’re looking for techniques, LFI will be perfect! And also, just try out mixing some of your media just to watch what will happen. Small little low key experiments always teach me so much. I love to do those with my patrons! Good luck and thank you so much for playing! 🤗

      • Maria Egilsson on September 23, 2020 at 5:35 pm

Thanks for the advice and I love how we can learn from one another.

      • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 8:30 pm

Aww it’s my pleasure! Me too! I always learn tons from my students as they’re making my lessons their own. Those are my favourite moments. ❤️

    Here is where I shared : https://www.facebook.com/lili.wee.56/

Having cancer and going through all life for 46 years is my inspiration. The struggles, the pain, the fight … all this creates an opportunity for me to see life at a different ‘light’ or perspective. And from there I create what is unspoken about me…

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 5:35 pm

Thank you Li Li! Your link is so helpful! I’m sorry you have to go through that, it’s such a tough battle. But I looove that you’re using your experience for your art. You sound like a strong person!

  15. Donna Ochs on September 23, 2020 at 5:50 pm

Your instruction style, your artistic abilities, and your friendly manner made it such a great experience! Thank you so much! I would so very much love to win the free place in the Let’s Face It class. I hope I will be the lucky winner! Thanks again for all you do to share your art!

    • jerneymarisha on September 23, 2020 at 10:21 pm

Hi Holly! Aww thank you so much for your sweet words! Ohhh I looove women! But also older men have such interesting faces and, more importantly, they are often dramatically lit. I love that!

  20. Susan on September 23, 2020 at 7:58 pm

Hi Jerney, what inspires me most is nature in general, I also put out a dish of water in my yard and I have sparrows that come for a bath and drink, their splashing around inspires me and brings me joy, such a little thing! 21. Chris on September 23, 2020 at 8:30 pm

It has to be light and shadow. Since I started painting I have become more and more aware of how shadow and light define everything.

    • jerneymarisha on September 24, 2020 at 6:27 am

I know just what you mean! That’s such a valuable thing to be aware of. Once you really get it, it’s so much easier to paint from your imagination. ☺️

  22. Anne Junkkarinen on September 23, 2020 at 8:53 pm

Inspiration just happens when I least expect it. When I see, hear or feel something that moves me deeply. Being around artists who are passionate about what they do, injects their enthusiasm and good energy to me. My greatest inspiration is something that motivates me to create art, so to win a spot in Let’s Face It 2021 would be something I would treasure.

    • jerneymarisha on September 24, 2020 at 6:30 am

Hi Anne! ❤️ Oh yes, inspiration and passion can be infectious for sure! Good luck sweetheart!

Oddly, Covid has gifted me the opportunity to stop, appreciate, and be inspired by the things close to home. Being forced to not work has also allowed me to do thing like explore art classes and get to know people in the many FB art groups & classes I discovered. I am inspired also by all the teachers/artists who live their lives doing what they love like you. Thank you for the opportunity to win a spot and continue the journey. I will share in my journaling FB group.

    • jerneymarisha on September 24, 2020 at 7:26 am

  30. Dianne Marega on September 24, 2020 at 9:44 am

What inspire me or who inspires me? I admire artists who can portray people in a very expressive manner, using lots of movement and large brush strokes such as Anh Do. I also enjoy artists that create imagery that is very dark, at various levels, as this is I began many years ago.

    • jerneymarisha on September 24, 2020 at 6:09 pm

Hi Dianne! Thank you so much for the tip, I wasn’t familiar with Ahn Do yet, I love his art! I’m also quite fond of art with a dark side to it. I adore Eric Lacombe for instance!

What inspires me most are my 6 year old grand twins. They have taught me to really look into their faces and work at figuring out the dissimilarities in them, since they are identical. They keep me coming back because they always recognize the drawing, if it is off a family member… unlike my husband!

    • jerneymarisha on September 26, 2020 at 11:12 am

How beautiful! Can you find lots of subtle little dissimilarities? I love that they can see your art for what it is. For some reason husbands do not excel at this. 😁 I think they aren’t taught to look at the world in a limited way yet. I hope they will never lose that quality ❤️

I habr to be honest, it is hard to be inspired right now; however, walking in the woods where i Live, seeing the deer and turkeys come to visit, and raising monarch butterflies this summer have really gotten me through some hatd times. Now, i am hoping for a spot in Let’s Face it to tey to reclaim my love of art. Thank you, Jerney, for this opportunity. I wouldn’t have grown so much over the past few years if I hadn’t picked up my paint brushes and made a promise to myself that I would start creating on a regular basis. Let’s make 2021 a year full of artsy fun! 😘

Art inspires and moves me….that mysterious creative spirit that tingles through the body when you see a beautiful colour in a tube of paint….the curiosity that is aroused when you see something beautiful or expressive in another artist’s work….spending hours in an art shop looking at everything even if you went to buy a pencil…..

Maybe try some expressive portrait play while giving yourself permission to distort, like I did over here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/41554651

Congratulations Jerney Marisha! I’m glad to see you’re doing well, after being away for quite some time <3 Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity! What inspires me most of all is the human face (and body), with each their unique features and expressions. I've shared your post on my Fabebook page ^_^ (I forgot to reply here, sorry!)
